Temperatures in Hereford are expected to reach 27°C on Saturday and 29°C on Sunday, before rising to 30°C on Tuesday and 32°C on Wednesday. Because the local heatwave threshold is 26°C for three consecutive days, the upcoming stretch qualifies.
Across the rest of England and Wales, high pressure is building to create a widespread hot spell, with eastern and south-eastern areas potentially reaching 36°C by Thursday.
The UK Health Security Agency has issued a yellow heat-health alert for the West Midlands, noting potential impacts on health and social care services, especially for older people and those with underlying conditions.
