In case heavy smoke rolling across the skyline was not a subtle enough clue, Scottish Fire and Rescue services confirmed that an oil tanker caught fire on a farm near Dalmeny early Friday morning.
Emergency services received the alert at approximately 7:36 am, dispatching four fire engines alongside specialist units to battle the blaze. Because burning oil produces a rather conspicuous plume of smoke—visible as far away as Edinburgh Airport—authorities issued a few practical guidelines for local residents:
- Shut windows and doors: Recommended for anyone nearby who prefers their indoor air unsmoked.
- Avoid the area: Firefighters would appreciate the extra breathing room while extinguishing a major vehicle fire.
For those travelling through South Queensferry, Police Scotland closed the B924 at its junction with the A90. Lothian Buses also confirmed that the service 43 is currently unable to serve Main Street in Dalmeny and is diverting in both directions.
